Western Heritage Joins Jerome Home Tour

This year the 45th annual Jerome Home Tour took place and continues to be longest running tour in Arizona. Every year a small handful of residents and business owners open their doors to the public, giving everyone a chance to see selected historical buildings and residential homes that were built over 100 years ago. Western Heritage Furniture is proud to participate in the Jerome Home Tour this year.

Western Heritage Furniture is located in the old Jerome High School Gymnasium, which was part of the original Jerome High School Complex, built in 1923. Jerome High School boasted top notch facilities that were in continuous use until 1972 when the student body moved to Mingus Union High School, just down the hill in Cottonwood, Arizona.

There are several unique features in this particular building where our wood shop is located, including the original maple basketball court flooring, lockers, basketball hoops and the giant Marauders mascot still looms over the shop on the large southern wall as if it’s keeping an eye on everyone. One of the more noticed features of our wood shop is the unique, dome like roof structure designed by a German architect in 1939 and commonly referred to as a honeycomb dome. It presumably got its name from the hundreds of self supporting, 10 foot long beams that seem to defy gravity and hold up the entire roof in a honeycomb pattern.

Our furniture showroom is located upstairs, in the old band room. If you are ever in Jerome, Arizona, for the home tour or not, be sure to stop in at 889 Hampshire avenue and we will be happy to give you a tour of our facilities.
